Arrival Assistance

Committee Chairs     Carol Sunderman
CCFI volunteers are needed to meet international students and visitors at the Columbia Metropolitan airport or Greyhound bus station and take them to their accommodations. Visitors arrive throughout the year, but volume is particularly high in July, August, December, and January. Volunteers can be matched with arrivals according to preferred schedule requirements.
CCFI volunteers are behind each CCFI program. They are people interested in keeping the Columbia community an international-friendly place, and helping all international visitors to have a vibrant experience during their stay. We welcome all Columbia residents, both temporary and permanent, to join us. Volunteers can take active participation on any of the following committees:

CCFI VOLUNTEER COMMITTEES

Hospitality
Committee Chair   Misti Crawford
Have a flare for event planning? The Hospitality Committee plans the Friday International Lunch Hour, which takes place on the USC campus throughout the academic year.  Other dinners, outings, and special events are planned throughout the year to bring CCFI members and international students and scholars together. Volunteers are needed to locate sites, activities, entertainment, and plan for food.
Palmetto Council for International Visitors (PCIV)
Committee Chair    Jim Byrum & Julia Ferillo
CCFI coordinates this Department of State funded program which brings international visitors to the Columbia area. Visitors may come by themselves or as part of a delegation, and all are coming to learn about some aspect of U.S. culture and society. Previous visitors have included national and local politicians, law enforcement, and educators. Volunteers are needed to meet arriving guests at the airport, escort them to scheduled visits and tours, and to host them at home for small receptions or dinners.
Ways and Means
Committee Chair       Open
CCFI is interested in promoting itself to businesses, community members, and organizations with similar interests. Volunteers with this committee will assist by identifying where and how CCFI can be promoting itself, its programs and services. Tasks could include several meetings throughout the year to discuss outreach opportunities, sponsorship development, and/or representing CCFI at various community events.
Membership
Committee Chair  Leigh Ann Spell
Communications
Committee Chair   Calley Hornbuckle
This committee is actively keeping members engaged with the organization by updating the website, creating electronic newsletters and email blasts, taking pictures at events, and producing information about CCFI.
